The ghanaian queen mother with the biggest afro shop in Germany
On the other side, this may not be fully true in countries like U.S.A, UK,Canada and Germany, because of the presence of african market kind courtsey afro entreprenuers who strive to cross the mediterranean sea with african products and retail them in these countries.
Maa Lydia, a ghanaiana and queen mother of Ensuta Kwaaman-Mampong is one of those afro entrepreneurs providing african flavour to many african diasporas families.
In the wednesday edition of Dialy Wahala with Magraheb, a popular Italy-based ghanaian youtuber, Maa Lydia talks about how and why she established one of the biggest afro shop- Goldhouse Afro Shop- in Dusseldorf.
Dialy Wahala is a one man show on Youtube bent on highlighting ghanaian individuals who are engaged in legal business in the diaspora, putting ghana on the map.
Goldhouse Afro Shop in Dusseldorf has been in existence for 12 years and has on it shelves products like Prekese, yam, neat futu, herings, shito, kenkey, Alomo bitters and everything one could find in a local ghanaian supermarket.
In a conservation with Magraheb, Maa Lydia made a remarkable statement "I bring Ghana to Dusseldorf", implying products are imported from Ghana. The youtuber asked her "Why didnt you look for any other job [white-collar job] but decided to open this Afro Shop? And this was her reply "I worked with Omo company for about 15 years, but as you grow, you lose strenght, so I decided do something which will not demand much of my strenght".
Maa Lydia recognized the difficulty involved in setting up the Goldhouse Afro Shop but it has been an amazing experience, "today I have about one thousand sons because of this shop" she said in laughter.
The queen mother stated she used to buy from pakistans and indians but later decided to import the original ghanaian product to Dusseldorf, a city with considerable number of ghanaians.
The queen mother's advise to the diasporas is that "if you have strenght then do work that requires strenght and as you grow old, you do something demanding less strenght".
